2018 Review at Woody's Place

Updated: Apr 23, 2021

We'd like to take a moment to recap 2018 here at Woody's Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary, and to thank all of our wonderful volunteers and faithful supports. Without all of you, there is no telling what would have happened to each senior German Shepherd that has either remained at, or passed through our door.

In 2018 we took in 9 resident dogs. That is almost a dog a month! :) They are : Brandi, Max and Lara, Gabriel, Gracie, Champ, Stanfield, Rocko, and Atticus. In addition to that, we have also helped many other senior German Shepherds into their new forever home and/or place them with another rescue through our fantastic network of board members and volunteers. It takes a village, right?

2018 was also the inauguration of our Canines in the Country event, which was a big success for its first year, and will be even bigger and better this year! If you want to spend the day in the country with your dog swimming , kayaking and fishing in a private lake, roaming through marked hiking trails, enjoying delicious food, shopping with our vendors, and taking in search and rescue, and obedience training demonstrations, come on out this July for our second Canines in the Country event.

Additionally, we host lots of fundraising events through out the year, which are always a big hit and fun for all. For instance, we have multiple paint and sip events (free food provided), Hot dog and soda and baked goods events (which are pretty much a sell out), raffles, Pet photos with Santa, and we partake in other organization's events like Paw Prints on the Canal and the De Bella dog walk. Our volunteers truly have a great time putting these events together! So much so, that others see the fun we are having and want to volunteer too! There is always room for more!

Speaking of events, In 2019 we will we will kick off the year at the Canine Learning Experience in Allentown on February 2 at the Allentown fairgrounds, and we will host our very first Chalk Couture fundraising event, so come on out and see us.

But perhaps our biggest news (that we have been sitting on for a couple of weeks now) is that we will be kicking off a separate fundraiser to purchase an indoor/outdoor commercial kennel, this way we can help even more senior German Shepherds in need. And hold on to your hats.... For each donation raised we have a private sponsor who will match each donation up to $5000!!! So keep an eye out for the details, because that will be happening soon.

We also saw some sad times here at the sanctuary in 2018 with the passing of several resident dogs. They were: Gabriel, Gracie, Stanfield, our Woody's Place mascot, Kitty Meow Meow, and Chopper. With some, there passing was clearly written, with others, it came out of left field and left us shocked. None the less, even though we take a beating with each passing, it is part of the process, and we take comfort in knowing that they were well cared for and loved to the very end, and that is what is most important.

Once again, Woody's Place would not be what it is today without the support and dedication of our volunteers and supporters who share the same vision as us....to help senior German Shepherds in need of a loving forever home. Thank you for allowing us to follow our dream of providing sanctuary to these very deserving creatures.

Happy and healthy 2019 to you and yours!
