Resident Dogs

  SPONSOR A RESIDENT DOG

As a dedicated dog rescue organization, we pride ourselves on being a genuine sanctuary for homeless senior German Shepherds who have been overlooked in the adoption process, providing them with a permanent and affectionate forever home they can truly call their own.

"WE ARE THAT PLACE IN THE COUNTRY WHERE OLD GERMAN SHEPHERDS COME TO RETIRE."

The experience of homelessness is particularly challenging for older dogs, who may struggle to adapt as easily as younger dogs. Despite this, they still deserve a warm bed, nourishing food, affectionate care, and a place to call home. When we take in a senior German Shepherd at our shelter, we make a lifelong commitment to their well-being. They receive top-quality care, including regular vet visits, nutritious food, comfortable bedding, specialized equipment if needed, constant supervision, outdoor walks, toys for playtime, and most importantly - love and attention. Caring for these abandoned seniors is costly, and we rely on financial support and dedicated volunteers who share our values.

Support our sanctuary by sponsoring a resident dog or making a tax-deductible donation through any Donate button on our website. Your contribution directly benefits the care of these dogs. Join us in making a difference today!

Brutus is a 13-year-old, super friendly boy who came from Southern Ocean County, NJ, animal facility on July 20, 2022. He was surrendered to the facility when his owner lost her home.

Brutus was very underweight (only 61 lbs), was missing quite a bit of hair, and had several growths that needed to be investigated. Additionally, his teeth are in rough shape. He had a full geriatric workup with our trusted veterinary team on Friday, July 29, 2022.
Brutus is a very sweet boy who gets along with everyone and loves to eat!

Some of Brutus's favorite things

  • Attention

  • Food

  • Sleeping

  • Hanging out with the kitty cats

  • His Buddy, Atticus

  • Taking walks

Lilly is a 15-year-old, feisty little old lady who was surrendered to ACCT in Philadelphia, PA, after her owner sadly passed away in March 2024.

Lilly was completely shell-shocked upon arrival at the sanctuary and quite grumpy with her new living situation. It took her some time to decompress and understand that she was safe, but she is much better now.

Some of Lilly's favorite things are:

  • Her favorite sofa and warm blankets

  • Walks on the sanctuary grounds

  • Her good friend Brutus

  • All human foods, especially Saltine crackers

Ceasar is a 9-year-old, very friendly boy who, like Brutus, came from a Southern Ocean County, NJ, animal facility. He arrived at the sanctuary on September 9, 2023, and was an owner surrendered.

Ceasar is a "chunky monkey" who weighs a whopping 109 lbs. He will be put on a diet to lose weight and become much healthier. He also has a large mass on his upper body on the left side that will need to be examined and possibly removed.

Ceasar is doing his best to his new environment and friends.

Some of Cearsar's favorite things are:

  • Follow Mr. Woody's Place Everywhere

  • Playing with any rubber ball

  • Go for walks

  • Sleep on Big Barker beds

Honey came to us in April 2024 when a good samaritan found her roaming the streets of Old Forge, PA, with poop and hay stuck to her.

Not much is known about Honey's past....not even her name. But we do know that she is about ten years old and has been bred in the past. She has some old lady lumps and bumps but is as sweet as pie!

It's hard to imagine someone letting go of such a sweet girl, but no one has come forward to claim her, so she is officially a sanctuary resident.

Some of Honey's favorite things are:

  • Being with Dawn and the residents

  • Homecooked meals

  • Rolling in the grass

  • Being outside on warm sunny days
